There is some kiss we want our whole life, the touch of spirit on the body
Rumi

"God speaks to the soul
And God said to the soul:
I desired you before the world began.
I desire you now
As you desire me.
And where the desires of two come together
There love is perfected."

Mechthild of Magdeburg.

Zikr Batin* is the enactment of the love relationship between The Unlimited One and the human being, the primal relationship from which all others arise.

Through the practice of Zikr Batin, we will spend the day exploring love and love’s conundrums and the inner sanctuary of the heart, where love’s perfection abides.

*Zikr Batin is a form of silent Zikr that was disclosed to Taj by the Spirit of Guidance during long silent retreats at Christ in the Desert, a Benedictine Monastery in Abiquiu, New Mexico.  There, at night without electricity, the dark sky outside evokes the vast night sky within.  In this silent depth, the Guest, enticed by the heart’s deepest yearning, arrives for intimate communion.

This class is a prerequisite for new retreatants wishing to join Taj on longer silent retreats. The video recordings will be made available for purchase to those who can’t attend this day, but wish to acquire the needed permission for upcoming retreats.

To the question, 'What is God?' and 'What is human?' the answer is that the soul, conscious of its limited existence, is 'human', and the soul reflected by the vision of the unlimited, is 'God'. By communion between these two, in time both become one, as in reality they are already one. And yet the joy of communion is even greater than the joy of at-one-ment, for all joy of life lies in the thought of 'I' and 'you'.

Taj Inayat

Taj Inayat is the spiritual director of the Hurqalya Center and an initiate since 1967 in the Sufi Order International, now the Inayatiyya Order, a mystical and ecumenical fellowship rooted in the visionary legacy of Hazrat Inayat Khan. Three years after initiation she met Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, head of the Order, and became his spiritual partner. They collaborated in the work until his death in 2004.

Taj served as Vice President of the Sufi Order International, as teacher/guide for many years before co-creating Sufi Retreats and New Rain, programs that carried on the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan.

Taj’s work is founded on a lifetime's attention to the human heart. Her capacity for supporting mystical awakening and self-knowing has grown out of her long experience as a spiritual guide in the transformative traditions of Sufism, Diamond Approach and Tibetan Buddhism. She is a minister in the Universal Worship Church and holds an MA in Counseling Psychology.
