Pray with Faith

Dear Friends,

I wanted to share something that has been echoing in my heart since the recent session on Faith, which some of you attended.  If you were there, this will reinforce what we practiced. Whether you attended or not, you might consider this.

Pray with Faith

Words of prayer point to the incomprehensible. How do we stand before words that we cannot grasp?

How do we go beyond the mere formality of prayer into a moment that alters us?

Take any passage of prayer that is beyond your reach. We say, “Oh Thou, Creator, Sustainer…”

Can we withstand speaking to our Creator, our Sustainer? To encounter the meaning of such names sends us to the ground shaking.

How do such words truly reach us? We cannot command them to penetrate our minds. We can only make ourselves ready to receive them.

It begins with faith. Faith creates!

Murshid says that faith is “self-confidence and certainty of expectation.”

To pray with faith is to enter the thought that it is your destiny to realize the meaning. It is to know that it is natural and inevitable that these words dawn on you.

Place the words in your heart. Relax any effort to understand them with your intellect. Let your heart receive them.

Like clouds in the sky, let doubts float by and dissolve. Pay no attention to these. Remain anchored in faith.

Be alert. The meaning may dawn in this instant. Or it is a seed planted in your mind. The timing is not your concern.
